Overview

The New Business Account Executive is a high-impact, key contributor to HSM’s growth strategy, responsible for identifying, engaging, and converting high-value prospects into long-term customers within the commercial transportation space. This role blends strategic prospecting with hands-on sales execution, requiring a strong ability to uncover customer needs, position tailored solutions, and close new business. Success in this position demands resilience, resourcefulness, and a bias for action—driven by a commitment to deliver value and results. Ideal candidates are competitive, consultative sellers with the discipline to drive pipeline activity and the relationship skills to transition early wins into recurring revenue accounts. Target markets include OEMs, upfitters, dealers, fleet operators, and specifiers across transit, shuttle, van, bus, and specialty vehicle sectors.

 

Location: Greater Charlotte NC or surrounding areas preferred; open to alternative locations

Responsibilities

1. Target Identification & Opportunity Generation

  • Proactively research and prioritize prospects that align with long-term strategic growth
  • Pursue leads with focus and urgency, using a combination of outbound outreach, industry intelligence, and persistence
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to sharpen customer profiles and align campaign strategies with real-world challenges
  • Take ownership of personal pipeline development and contribute to lead generation efforts that expand market reach

2. Sales Execution & Account Conversion

  • Engage customers with a consultative approach that balances listening, technical insight, and practical solutions
  • Move prospects through qualification, quoting, and close with a sense of urgency and accountability for results
  • Establish credibility and trust with new customers to support repeat purchasing and long-term retention
  • Follow through after the sale to ensure momentum is maintained and initial wins evolve into sustained value

3. Customer & Channel Engagement

  • Develop meaningful relationships with OEMs, upfitters, dealers, and fleet stakeholders built on responsiveness and follow-through
  • Partner with channel collaborators and outside influencers to uncover shared opportunities and multiply impact
  • Stay persistent in navigating complex or competitive bid processes, securing spec-in opportunities & contract awards

4. Market Presence & Industry Insight

  • Represent HSM with pride at industry trade shows, association events, and customer site visits
  • Explore niche markets and segments through market-driven curiosity and a commitment to learning what others miss
  • Feed insights back to internal teams to help shape future product innovation and sales strategy

Qualifications

Education & Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Prefer Business Administration, Marketing, or Social Science degree, other majors considered
  • CPSL, CSE, Strategic or SPIN Selling, Challenger or Sandler Sales training and certs a plus
  • Prefer 5+ years of outside sales experience, 3+ years in business development, or account executive roles
  • Prior experience in commercial transportation, automotive, or manufacturing is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated success in building a pipeline and closing new accounts in a B2B setting
  • Experience selling to OEMs or transportation-adjacent industries strongly preferred
  • Comfortable navigating long-cycle or consultative sales processes where perseverance makes the difference

Strategic Selling & Collaboration & Communication Skills

  • Ability to identify business needs, position differentiated solutions, and guide prospects through a thoughtful sales journey
  • Clear, confident communication style that adapts to technical or executive-level audiences
  • Commitment to following through—owning both the opportunity and the relationship beyond the first sale
  • Strong interpersonal and team-based collaboration skills; comfortable sharing wins and learning from setbacks
  • Self-motivated with the internal drive to stay organized, meet deadlines, and keep the ball moving
  • Proficient with CRM tools and reporting platforms to ensure visibility, transparency, and accountability

Other Requirements

  • Travel required to customer sites, trade shows, and internal events (approximately 30%)
  • Strong sense of ownership and internal drive—able to work independently while staying aligned with team objectives
