The Seat Trim Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and industrializing trim covers for school, activity, and commercial bus seats.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Industrial Design Engineers on styling concepts feasibility.
• Supports selection of trim materials (cloth, vinyl, leather, etc.) based on customer input and A-surface complexity. Creates material spec sheets.
• Works with Complete Seat Team to design attachment strategies for trim with foam and seat structures.
• Designs cover patterns, using either manual (physical) patterns with digitizer and/or Accumark CAD software as appropriate. Creates nested layouts for production cutting.
• Defines seam and stitch types and their placement. Creates thread specs.
• Cuts and sews prototype parts on industrial equipment.
• Build/assemble development seats to verify trim designs, understanding and using production build methods.
• Participates in complete seat testing to evaluate trim cover performance.
• Manages part numbers in internal engineering systems.
• Executes and releases trim designs into production using standard release process, manages product change documentation.
• Creates finished cover drawings for quality control.
• Writes procedures, guidelines, and best practices regarding trim cover design and development process.

Qualifications

Education:

  • College degree in job related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in seat trim development within automotive, aircraft or transportation industry.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of trim development process and best practices
  • Knowledge of trim retention methods and best practices
  • Knowledge of trim materials and threads
  • Knowledge of trim limitations and production constraints when establishing feasibility
  • Understanding of product cycle
  • Experience on new project launch
  • Lectra/Accumark proficient
  • CAD proficient (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • PDM proficient (Autodesk Vault preferred)

Pay Range

USD $80,000.00 - USD $82,000.00 /Yr.
